Yasir's First Fast
Fasting isn’t just about staying hungry - it’s about letting the heart learn patience, gratitude, and love for Allāh. Like Yāsir, every small act in Ramaḍān can bring us closer to Him.”

The thin crescent moon glowed softly in the calm night sky.
“Tomorrow is Ramaḍān,” said Yāsir’s father.
Yāsir’s eyes sparkled. “Abī, can I try fasting this year?”
His father smiled and placed a warm hand on his shoulder.
“If you feel strong, my son, try your best. Fasting is for Allāh alone.”
Yāsir nodded, his heart light and excited -just like the moon above.

Before dawn, the family woke for saḥūr.
Sleepy-eyed, Yāsir asked, “Mama, why do we eat before Fajr?”
She smiled. “The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Eat saḥūr, for in it there is blessing.’”
Yāsir ate a small piece of bread dipped in warm soup and drank a big glass of water.
He whispered, “Alḥamdulillāh.”
As the call to Fajr filled the air, Yāsir smiled - his fast had begun.

By midday, Yāsir felt the fast getting harder.
His stomach gave a long, loud rumble.
The smell of his little sister’s soup drifted through the air, making him weak.
His mother noticed and said softly,
“My dear son, when you feel hungry, remember - Allāh sees your effort and loves your patience.”
Yāsir closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and thought to himself, “I’m fasting for Allāh.”
He wanted to hold on to that feeling all day.
