After Asr, Amina sat in the garden. She leaned close to the grass and watched a tiny beetle weave between the clover stems. Its thin little legs moved exactly as Allah guided them. She held her breath and listened. But she heard nothing. The beetle was so small, yet Allah had made it perfectly. Amina frowned. Allah made this tiny beetle. But she didn't know much about Allah. A question quietly grew in her heart: How can I know more about Allah?

Amina closed her eyes and thought about the things Allah had made. The sky stretching high above her. The stars beyond it. More stars beyond those. She imagined going farther and farther, but she could never reach the end of Allah's creation.
Page 3
She opened her eyes. The beetle was still there, moving in its quiet world. Allah made it. The trees around her. The sky above her. Even her - Allah made her. Everything she could see was made by Allah. She looked around slowly. But she still didn't know how to know Allah.

Amina went to Ummi in the kitchen. The scent of warm bread filled the air. "Ummi," she said, "Allah made me. I want to know about Allah." Ummi sat beside her. Amina told her about the beetle, the sky, and the stars. "I can see what Allah made," she said. "But how can I know more about Him?"

Ummi smiled gently. "You know when you hear the Qur'an?" Amina nodded. "That is Allah telling us about Himself and guiding us. And when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught people, he was teaching them about Allah too." Amina's eyes widened. "So this is how we know Allah! What did Allah and His Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم tell us, Ummi?"
Page 6
"That Allah is As-Samīʿ." Amina grew still. "He hears everything. No sound is hidden from Him - not loud, not quiet. Sounds near, and sounds far - Allah hears them all at the same time, without missing even one."
Page 7
Amina stayed quiet for a moment. She tried to listen again - to the tiny beetle in the garden... to the wind in the sky... to the birds far away. After a moment, she stopped. "It's too much," she whispered.
Page 8
"Sometimes I say something very quietly, and I can barely hear it myself." She looked at Ummi. "Allah hears even that?" Ummi nodded. "Yes. Allah hears even the words you do not say. He knows what is in your heart." Amina grew quiet.

Later, Amina stood by the window. The sun hung low in the sky. Everything seemed peaceful and still. Then Amina remembered what Ummi had said. The sun was moving. The trees were swaying. The world around her was full of sounds she could not hear. But Allah heard them all. Every single one.

Amina thought about the ocean. She had only seen it in books. It was so wide she could not see the end. So deep that sunlight could not reach the bottom. In those dark waters, creatures swim and move about. But no one can hear them. Except Allah. Even right now.

That night, Ummi read from the Qur'an: لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌۭ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِير "There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer." Amina sat very still. In wonder, she placed her hand over her heart. Then she paused. Even that small movement was not hidden from Allah.
Page 12
"Allah is Al-Aliyy," Ummi said softly. "The Most High." Amina looked toward the sky. So high. So far beyond anything she could imagine. Allah is above all of His creation. And still, He hears everything.

It was bedtime soon. The room was quiet. Amina lay under her blanket and remembered the beetle, the sky, and everything Ummi had taught her. Then a small wish rose in her heart. She turned slightly and whispered, "Allah, please help me know You more." She waited quietly. Then she whispered again. Softly. Slowly. Telling Allah what was in her heart. Allah heard every word. At last, Amina closed her eyes. Nothing is like Allah. And she fell asleep.
