Aisha pressed her forehead to the window.

The thin Ramadan moon glowed softly.

“Ummi… Ramadan is starting”, she said.

    Her mother hugged her shoulders.

“Yes, my dear. A month full of light.”

Her mother placed the glorious Qur’an in Aisha’s hands.

    “In this very month,

Allah gave His greatest gift -

    Aisha listened in quiet wonder.

A vibrant horizontal children’s-book illustration in a modern comic style. In a cozy bedroom at night, Aisha (young African-American girl, faceless silhouette, small curly puff) leans forward at the window, both hands on the glass, watching a thin Ramadan crescent moon in a deep blue sky with a few stars. She wears a long pink abaya. Her mother (African-American, faceless silhouette) sits close beside her on the bed, one arm around Aisha’s shoulders, wearing a long green dress and cream scarf. Warm room tones, purple bedspread, peach curtains, small shelf and plant visible. Soft moonlight and warm indoor lighting. No faces, no angels, no supernatural glow.

Aisha pressed her forehead to the window. The thin Ramadan moon glowed softly. “Ummi… Ramadan is starting”, she said. Her mother hugged her shoulders. “Yes, my dear. A month full of light.
