The Days Allah Chose
To the rest of the world, the streetlights look the same—but inside Maahir’s house, a countdown has begun that changes everything.

Maahir woke up. The house was very quiet. No breakfast smells. No noisy kitchen sounds.
Father was on his prayer mat. Mother softly counted dhikr. Grandfather sat by the window reading Quran.
"Did something happen?" Maahir asked.
Ubaydah whispered.
"Dhul-Hijjah started," she whispered.
Maahir blinked.
Dhul-Hijjah?
Maahir could not understand yet. And somehow, Maahir felt left out. He wanted to know about it.

That night, Maahir sat beside Grandfather by the window.
A tiny moon shone in the sky.
"Grandfather... what is Dhul-Hijjah?" he asked.
Grandfather smiled.
"It is the month of Hajj," he said warmly. "The days Allah chose for Hajj at His House."
"People from all over the world are traveling to Makkah," Grandfather said. "They leave their homes and travel to worship Allah."
Maahir pressed his nose against the window.
People from everywhere?
Suddenly, the world felt much bigger.

"But why are these days special?" Maahir asked.
"Allah made all the days," he said gently. “And He honored these ten days above all others.
Grandfather pointed to the Quran.
"Do you know, in Surah Al-Fajr, Allah also swears by these ten nights? And when Allah swears by something in the Quran," Grandfather said gently, "it means it is great and important."
Maahir kept looking at the calendar.
One whole day was already gone.’And it felt heavier.
