Prophet Musa (alayhis-salam) grew up in Egypt during the time of Fir'awn. One day, he entered the city and found two men fighting. One man was from his people, and the other was from the people who opposed them. The man from Musa's people called out for help. Musa (alayhis-salam) went to help him and struck the other man and he died. Musa (alayhis-salam) had not intended for this to happen.

Musa (alayhis-salam) felt very sorry for what had happened. He said: "This is from the work of Satan. He is a clear enemy who leads people astray." Then he turned to Allah with deep regret and prayed: "My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me." Allah, the Most Merciful, forgave him.

The next day, Musa (alayhis-salam) was in the city again. He saw the same man from his people fighting someone else. The man called out to Musa for help again. Musa told him, "You are clearly causing trouble." But as Musa stepped forward, the man panicked. He thought Musa was going to hurt him, so he shouted, "O Musa! Do you want to kill me just like you killed a man yesterday?!"

The other fighter heard this and rushed to tell the king's palace. The matter became known, and the leaders ordered that Musa be killed. Then, a man came running from the far side of the city to warn him. He said, "The leaders are consulting to kill you, so leave. I am a sincere adviser to you." So Musa (alayhis-salam) left the city quickly, looking around in fear and praying to Allah for safety.

As he traveled toward Madyan, Musa (alayhis-salam) said: "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the right way." When he reached the water of Madyan, he found a group of men watering their flocks. Nearby, he saw two women keeping their animals back.

Musa (alayhis-salam) asked: "What is the matter with you?" They replied: "We cannot water our flocks until the shepherds finish, and our father is a very old man." So Musa (alayhis-salam) watered their flocks for them.

Then he went to the shade and prayed to Allah: "My Lord, I am in need of whatever good You send to me." Later, one of the two women came to him. She said that her father was inviting him so that he could reward him for helping them.

Musa (alayhis-salam) went with her and told her father what had happened. The old man said: "Do not be afraid. You are safe from the wrongdoing people." Then one of the daughters said: "O my father, hire him. The best person you can hire is someone who is strong and trustworthy."

The father said to Musa (alayhis-salam): "I want to marry one of my two daughters to you. You must work for me for eight years. If you want to work for ten years, that is your choice. I do not want to make things hard for you." Musa (alayhis-salam) replied: "That is agreed between us. Whichever time I finish, it is fair. And Allah is the Witness over what we say."

Musa (alayhis-salam) lived in safety and started his own family. He had made a big mistake in Egypt and was afraid. But he prayed to Allah, so Allah blessed Musa (alayhis-salam) and protected him from harm.
